Champion revolves around a mentally retarded guy named Nazir (Rahul Dev) who sets out to take revenge against a wealthy family who he believes is the cause of the downfall of his family. He kills the head of the family and his wife. But the only inheritant of the vast property of the family, Abbas (Abhishek Sharma), a kid, is alive. So the police force sends a celebrated cop from Patiala, Inspector Rajveer Singh (Sunny Deol) to protect the kid. Rajveer and the kid don't get along very well but eventually the two warm up with each other. Rajveer also falls in love with a family friend of Abbas, Sapna (Manisha Koirala), who is a model. Things start heating up when Nazir escapes from a mental asylum and attempts to kill Abbas. How Rajveer fights the lunatic and saves the kid forms the rest of the story.
